Back in 1975, my father said goodbye to farming and began his career as an insurance agent in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. What a life-changing event that turned out to be for my dad. Little could he guess at the time what his small insurance agency would grow up to eventually become. Or what an impact that job switch would have on the life of his youngest son.

Now it is forty years later. From that small insurance agency in north-central Wisconsin, my father’s company has grown into one of the largest third-party administrators of employee benefits accounts in the country. At the time we moved from Stevens Point to Madison and had three employees—me, my dad, and an assistant. That was 1987. Sometime during 2015, we will hire or acquire our 1,000th employee.

TASC has steadily grown by providing tax saving solutions to the segment of the workplace that’s all too often overlooked by traditional third-party administrators (TPA): small businesses. My dad taught us that small snowflakes can make big drifts. We thought if we could price our service offerings competitively for the smaller employer, in time we would succeed. And boy, were we right.

Research into the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) uncovered Section 105, which allows self-employed individuals who can legitimately hire a spouse to deduct 100 percent of their family’s medical expenses. This paved the way to the release of AgriPlan and BizPlan, and put TASC on the TPA map. Every 10 years, collectively, TASC’s Clients save more than a billion dollars in taxes! Not bad for a little three person shop in Wisconsin. Now, we serve customers of every size and shape.

The past 40 years have seen a lot of changes. Additional service offerings, innovative features, a corporate headquarters, acquisitions, and expansion into every part of the country are just a few of the notable changes. And while TASC continues to grow and change, our mission and values never will. We will keep on growing because we offer valued employee benefits and administration services that improve our customers’ bottom line and facilitate peace of mind, and because we excel in delivering innovative services with right-touch experiences.

At TASC we strive to be creative and nimble in our work and our points of view. We encourage a professional, inclusive work environment that supports fun and philanthropy. And we value the contributions, opinions and inputs of employees, customers, and representatives alike.

Throughout 2015 we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary. We hope to share some of that celebration with our customers and representatives throughout the United States. We are humbled by the trust you have placed with us over the years and look forward to serving you well into the future.
